1 Corinthians 12:8-11
8 To one there is given through the Spirit a message of wisdom, to another a message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit, 9 to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit, 10 to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues, and to still another the interpretation of tongues. 11 All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he distributes them to each one, just as he determines.

Matthew 18:3
And he said: "Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.

Since I first heard about spiritual gifts I have regularly prayed for the gift of prophecy but
lately I have also been praying for the gift of the interpretation of tongues, well a version of it anyway.

My children have taken to speaking to me in a tongue that I am not familiar with – that of cat or dog. My youngest regularly meows at me and if he is not meowing at me my eldest is woofing. I find myself exasperated with them at times when all I ask is if they would like a snack and the response is in feline/canine whining.

Now I am pretty sure this is not what Paul was talking about in 1 Corinthians but never the less I have asked God to please enable me to translate. I am sure He is having a good chuckle at my futile pleas but I feel like he is reminding me of the above Matthew verse.

In this time of uncertainty with work, home schooling, parenting, caring, house-keeping, cooking, illness or pastoral care, it is easy to get wrapped up in the minutiae of the problems and forget to step back and see the world in the awe and wonder of a child. We are all God’s children and I believe He would want us to revel in the wonder of his creation rather than spend all our energy worrying or fretting over the things we cannot change. After all “For I know the plans I have for you” Jeremiah 29:11.

I saw a video recently of a woman in America who turned the path outside her house into a ‘silly walks zone’. I love this idea. It’s a little bit of fun that everyone can get involved in if they want and for a few seconds just let go of all their worries and troubles and just be free.

So whilst I will continue to pray for the gift of prophecy I will also pray to God to make me more childlike, that I might set aside my stresses and strains and enjoy his creation more, be that the trees and plants, animals, sky, stars or my beautiful, crazy and wonderful children. I may even meow or woof back at my children.

Prayer
Loving God, I pray that you would make me more childlike that I might appreciate you and your creation more. Help me to find time to set aside my stresses and worries and love you with the awe and wonder of a child.

Prayer Request
Thank God for, and pray for God’s blessing on, the youngest children in our church family and all those who attend Shining Stars.
