Thought for the day banner

“Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock.  And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand.  And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.”   Matthew 7 24-27

Recently, Rosemary and I were able to escape for the day to West Wittering on the south coast.  Whilst sitting on the beach (in my jumper and with 20mph winds) I enjoyed watching a family building sandcastles - it brought back lots of happy memories of when our children were small. What magnificent structures were created!

However, I could see what the family, who were so absorbed in their construction, could not – the tide had turned and was steadily coming in.

It was not long before the inevitable happened; the sea washed away the sandcastle and with it all evidence of the hard work which had gone into its building. It was as though the castle had never existed.

This reminded me of the passage above from Matthew chapter 7.  It reinforces to me the need to build our lives on the solid foundation of our Lord Jesus Christ who can never be shaken nor washed away.

He will always be here for us.

Prayer: Dear Lord Jesus, thank you that you are our rock whatever the world throws at us and that we can always rely on you.

Prayer Request: Dear Father, please be with all those struggling through these times of semi lockdown and help them to know of your love for each of them. Amen.
