Vicar's Update

Wednesday 22nd November 2023

I know that Sunday’s announcement of our forthcoming departure came as a surprise to many, but I hope that the coming days and weeks will give us time to adjust to the news and plan appropriately.  Although Caroline and I will find it hard to leave St Stephen’s we know that we will leave behind a strong staff team and many good lay leaders who can ensure that the life and ministry of the Church continues during the vacancy.  Ruth Robinson will continue in her curacy (with oversight from an experienced local priest) and, as far as is as possible, will ensure that we maintain our regular services.

Thank you to everyone who responded to our financial review with updated or new pledges – we are very grateful.  On Monday the Church Council will receive details but I can tell you that because of your generosity we should have a balanced budget in 2024.  If you have made a pledge, please do make arrangements with your bank to update or set up a new Standing Order.

On Saturday we have our annual Christmas Fair in aid of the Ealing Churches Winter Night Shelter. We still need good quality items to sell - toys, books, jewellery, bric-a-brac (household goods), ‘good as new’ gifts and cakes.  You can bring them to church on Friday.  Most importantly do come along and invite your family, friends and neighbours!

Details of our forthcoming Christmas services are now on the Church website - do check them out.  We have invitation cards to give out in December – please take some to invite family and friends.

In times of change and uncertainty lets hold onto our faith and remember that Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever (Heb 13:8).

With my love

Steve
