Curates Update

Monday 18th March 2024

It was lovely to see so many of you at church yesterday on our first Sunday of the vacancy. We shared these verses from Hebrews at both services which we read at Morning Prayer last week and felt was God's encouragement to us.  'Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful.  And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.' Hebrew 10:23-25

We also finished our Lent series on Spiritual Pathways by looking at Nehemiah and exploring what it means to have an activist Spiritual Pathway. If you missed the service, you can watch it here.

If you want to put your activist calling into practice, next Saturday 23rd March, we'll be celebrating Earth Hour at church from 7.30pm. Come for a simple supper before we switch lights out, sharing readings, music and prayer by candle-light, thinking of our impact on God's creation, and how we can protect it. Contact Sue on 07908840954 if you can come

A reminder that this week we have the Thanksgiving Service for the late John Jackson at St. Stephen’s this Tuesday at 12:45pm followed by refreshments in the hall – all are welcome. On Friday, all are also welcome to the funeral of Geoffrey Nolan at 11:20am at Breakspear Crematorium. Please keep their families in your prayers.

As we get ready for Holy Week, make sure you have all our services in your diary. Do let us know if you are planning to come to the Maundy Thursday meal – a sign up sheet will be available on Sunday or you can email us at the office. We also have some Easter flyers to help you invite your friends and neighbours, why not pick some up on Sunday and deliver them prayerfully? Thanks to those of you who have already done so.

I encourage you this week to spend some time with the Hebrews verses above and read them slowly to yourself a few times. What word or phrase most stands out to you? What does God want to say to you through these verses?

Have a great week!

Ruth
